S ummary . A survey was made of 249 cases of Hodgkin's disease. The pre‐treatment lymphocyte count in the peripheral blood was correlated with the histological appearance of the tumour classified into ‘lymphocytic’, ‘mixed’, ‘lymphoid depletion’ and ‘nodular sclerosing’ groups. The peripheral lymphocyte count was significantly higher in the ‘lymphocytic’ than in the ‘lymphoid depletion’ varieties. The two remaining groups occupied an intermediate position. The prognostic and immunological implications of this observation are discussed.
