S ummary The aerobic metabolism of populations of rabbit reticulocytes separated into age groups by differential flotation was measured by manometric techniques. The activity of the Krebs tricarboxylic acid cycle was studied by following the metabolism of substrates such as [2‐ 14 C]acetate, [3‐ 14 C]pyruvate and [6‐ 14 C]glucose. These mitochondrial activities were found to decline with maturation of the reticulocytes. The mode of decline was studied and its significance is discussed.
