S ummary . The level of factor VIII in the blood of normal and asplenic subjects has been measured before and after vigorous exercise. Both groups of subjects showed a clear rise in the activity of factor VIII after exercise. In addition to the increase of biological activity, after exercise the blood of both groups showed a greater ability to neutralize factor‐VIII antibody. It is concluded that the spleen plays little or no part in the rise of factor VIII during exercise and that the rise of factor VIII seen in both normal and splenectomized individuals represents a true increase of factor VIII and is not an artifact.
