By the use of cohort labelling with 59 Fe and double‐generation labelling, either with DF 32 P and 59 Fe or with 59 Fe and 55 Fe, it was demonstrated that the increased haemolysis occurring during experimental pyrexia in rabbits affects predominantly the older red cells.
