SUMMARY A survey of 3000 cord bloods in Great Britain yielded one electrophoretically abnormal variant of Haemoglobin F in an infant of West Indian parentage. This haemoglobin resembled Haemoglobin F Texas. Haemoglobin F Texas might either be α 2 γ 2 5Glu → Lys or α 2 γ 2 6Glu → Lys . The present variant F has its substitution in the fifth residue of the γ‐chain, and is designated Haemoglobin F Texas I.
