SUMMARY Plasma from thrombocytopenic animals induces thrombocytosis in normal recipients. Thrombocytopenia induced by platelet antiserum or bleeding is followed by a reactive thrombocytosis and animals in this phase of increased platelet count provide a more sensitive system for the demonstration of ‘Thronibopoietin’. This humoral factor may be inactivated or removed by viable platelets suggesting the mode of operation of the thrombopoietic ‘feed‐back’ mechanism.
