Summary Many drugs already in use for the treatment of skin disease, including steroids, retinoids, vitamin D derivatives and cyclosporin (CyA), exert effects on gene transcription. In this review we briefly outline how these drugs work, before proceeding to a consideration of how new drugs acting on the transcription process might be used to influence skin disease.
