SUMMARY Three elderly, female patients presented with scalp ulceration. One developed sudden blindness before the ulceration of the scalp. Biopsy from the ulcerated area in this patient did not show evidence of giant cell arteritis, but the two other patients had histological evidence of giant cell arteritis and one of these also became blind.
