SUMMARY A young woman suffering from recurrent erythema multiforme associated with relapsing gluteal herpes simplex is presented, in whom long‐term treatment with oral acyclovir prevented herpes episodes as well as erythema multiforme. Erythema multiforme is an acute self‐limiting syndrome with distinctive skin lesions with or without mucosal lesions. An association of the syndrome with recurrent herpes simplex virus infection has been known for a long time, although the exact relationship has not been established.
