SUMMARY A study has been made of the incidence of knotting in scalp hair of various types. Short curly hair of negroid and caucasoid type appeared particularly disposed to knot. Scanning electron microscopy of affected hairs showed marked disruption of the hair shaft structure in and adjacent to the knots.
