SUMMARY Biopsy material from ninety‐one cases of inflammatory facial dermatoses was stained by the direct immunofluorescence method. The presence of immunoglobulins and complement in a distinct basement membrane band was seen only in lupus erythematosus. Negative results were found in thirty five cases of rosacea.
