SUMMARY Diffuse loss of scalp hair occurs in some women when they stop taking mixed oestrogen/progestogen oral contraceptives. Nine women had diffuse alopecia while still continuing to take the pill. The relationship between the hair thinning and oral contraceptives is discussed.
