Summary.— Factors involved in the formation of erythrasma lesions are discussed. In the axillae and groins, the presence of scaling was a significant forerunner of the appearance of a fluorescent lesion. The total bacterial count, the counts of both fluorescent and non‐fluorescent diphtherolds, were highest in areas showing both fluorescence and scaling, but the number of micrococci did not differ significantly between affected and non‐affected sites.
