SUMMARY Some variants of Streptomyces pelletieri have been isolated recently in the Transvaal from 2 patients and from river water. The red‐grain mycetomata produced were chronic but mild and did not destroy bone. The river isolates were probably part of the normal flora of the water, differing from the pathogenic strains mainly in their optimum temperature requirements.
