SUMMARY Two main types of epidermolysis bullosa affecting the Bantu are described. The possible evolution of the albopapuloid variety as seen in 2 patients with the dominant dystrophic type is discussed. The presentation of an infant with localized absence of skin and subsequent epidermolysis bullosa letalis supports the hypothesis that epidermolysis bullosa letalis with congenital localized absence of skin represents an intra‐uterine phase of the disease.
