THE problem of pharmacological mediators of inflammation still remains unsolved despite the isolation and characterization of an increasingly wide range of naturally occurring vasoactive substances. This subject has recently been reviewed by Spector and Willoughby (1968). We have developed a continuous skin perfusion method for use in human subjects which enables direct recovery of pharmacological substances from inflamed skin. In this communication we report results obtained in 2 types of inflammation–immediate and delayed. The possible applications of this technique to evaluation of the mode of action of anti–inflammatory drugs are also considered.
