SUMMARY.— An optical technique for the assay of enolase in skin extracts is described. This has been used to confirm the presence of the enzyme in mouse and human skin. Certain properties of the skin enzyme were examined; in its solubility, its pH activity profile, and the degree of inhibition by fluoride in the presence and absence of orthophosphate it was very similar to enolase preparations from yeast and other tissues.
