SUMMARY. Two patients with monilethrix have been studied. The rate of growth of beaded hair in the scalp was slightly but significantly greater than that of the microscopically unaffected hair, but there was no significant difference between the growth rates of beaded and unaffected hair in the forearm. There was no daily rhythm of node and internode formation, and no simple time cycle of any length could be discovered for the beading. Greater hair growth occurred during the day, and this achieved statistical significance at the 1% level for the normal shafts. Intradermal methotrexate in the doses employed had no effect either on growth rate or bead formation.
