. Successive adding of catches (C 1 + C 1 + C 1 …, C 2 + C 2 + C 2 …, etc.) obtained from nine similar, small, contiguous sections (0–50 up to 0–450 m) improved the accuracy of estimating fish density using the Leslie & Davis method. The method presented enables the sampling time to be minimized even though the errors attached to the density estimates are small.
