The late George Thompson prepared a paper for the York meeting of the Institute on the methods used by the Freshwater Biological Association to reduce the number of pike Esox lucius L. in Windermere. Owing to his death his paper, with as little alteration as possible, was read by Mr. T. B. Bagenal. This published paper is a slightly more rigorously edited version of Mr. Thompson's script.
