Summary Cattle reagents were used to blood type 158 water buffalo originating from Central Romania. Out of 36 cattle blood group factors which could be identified with the available reagents only 13 were present in the buffalo. Three genotypes at the Tf locus in buffaloes were identified by starch gel electrophoresis: TfBB, Tf BC and TfCC. At the Hb locus, only one phenotype Hb A was identified in all samples showing two bands a fast and a slow one. These data indicate a certain homology between cattle and water buffalo.
