Summary A 35‐year‐old woman undergoing laparoscopic sterilisation developed prolonged apnoea after suxamethonium. Fresh frozen plasma was given to replenish plasma cholinesterase, but recovery of neuromuscular transmission was not accelerated. Routine use of quantitative neuromuscular monitoring simplified her postoperative management.
