Summary A disposable nonelectronic patient‐controlled analgesia device was used to deliver fentanyl after upper abdominal surgery. Pain relief was satisfactory and plasma fentanyl concentrations were similar to those obtained by other workers who used electronic patient‐controlled analgesia devices.
