New prizes included the medical student’s poster prize and an essay prize sponsored by the RSM Section of Anaesthesia. gETTINg IDEAS rEALISED The AAGBI’s annual Award for Innovation in Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain is open to all British and Irish based anaesthetists, intensivists and pain specialists, with the emphasis being on new ideas contributing to patient safety, high quality clinical care and improvements in the working environment. Last year’s winner devised ‘SAFIRA’ Safe Injection System for Regional Anaesthesia. The statement gave support and advice to anaesthetists at local, regional and national levels in ensuring an adequate supply of appropriately trained doctors to provide safe anaesthetic services.
