Summary This case report describes a patient who sustained a laceration of the hepatic artery during external cardiac massage, a complication which has not previously been reported. The spleen was also damaged. The importance of recognising complications such as haemorrhage from injured abdominal viscera is emphasised and the literature relating to these injuries is briefly reviewed.
