Summary The use of filmed peer modelling as a means of reducing pre‐operative anxiety in children awaiting surgery is discussed. The potential benefits are listed. The author's involvement and experience in developing an appropriate videotape is described. Although some benefits are already apparent there are aspects of using this technique which require further investigation.
