Summary A general anaesthetic was followed by a rapid progression of signs and symptoms subsequently attributable to a meningioma. The general anaesthetic had been uneventful except for a significant delay in recovery. The interaction between general anaesthesia and intracranial masses is discussed and the conclusion reached that in cases of prolonged recovery from anaesthesia underlying intracranial pathology should always be suspected.
