Summary A diabetic patient who subsequently developed carcinoid syndrome is described. The responses to the anaesthetic technique and drugs used demonstrated the interactions of serotonin and bradykinin. Undiagnosed carcinoid syndrome can simulate an anaphylactic reaction under general anaesthesia.
