The various ways in which an anaesthetist may come into contact with the process of the criminal and civil law have been discussed. Some comparisons have been made between the English Law and that of other countries. The need for vigilance by professional bodies representing medical practitioners in monitoring and making representations about proposed new laws is emphasised.
