Summary Apart from treating symptoms, mucosal healing is a reasonable aim of therapy in Crohn's disease. In most patients, however, the disease takes a mild course and treating symptoms seems sufficient. Eliminating lesions may change the course of the disease long‐term but this has not yet been proven. Thus far we need to treat symptoms efficiently and may attempt to restore bacterial epithelial interaction.
