Summary A number of measurements were taken of 104 crocodiles at Ngezi, Zimbabwe. These were used to define the relationship between total length and eight other parameters, particularly those that are associated with size estimation during population surveys. The commonly used ratio between hindfoot (HF) spoor and total length is adjusted to 1:14 where HF <150mm, and 1:13.5 where HF > 150 mm. The accuracy of a ratio of 1:7 between head length and total length, used mostly during night counts, is established. Preliminary work suggests that these results are applicable to other populations.
