Summary The ecology and behaviour of vervent monkeys ( Cercopithecus aethiops ) living near a tourist lodge were studied during the peak tourist season in Amboseli National Park, Kenya. Lodge vervets differed from other wild vervet populations as they occurred at higher population densities, exhibited greater intragroup aggression and fed on non‐natural food made available through people. The human‐animal conflict of greatest concern to conservationists and wildlife managers involves the monkeys attacking and injuring tourists around the lodge. Tourists are attacked more frequently than original reports would indicate. Résumé L'écologie et le comportement du singe grivet ( Cercopithecus aethiops ) vivant près d'un lodge furent étudiés durant la saison touristique haute dans le Parc National d'Amboseli (Kenya). Ces grivets de lodge diffèrent des autres populations sauvages dans la mesure où ils présentent des densités de population plus élevées, montrent une agressivité inter‐groupe plus grande et se nourrissent d'aliments non‐naturels fournis par les gens. Le conflit homme‐animal, qui pose d'énormes problèmes aux conservateurs de la nature et aux gestionnaires de la faune, inclut le fait que les singes attaquent et blessent des touristes autour du lodge. Ceux‐ci sont attaqués plus fréquemment qu'auparavant. On présente des recommendations pour le développement d'un programme de gestion de la faune sauvage pour contrôler le problème des singes parasites vivant autour des lodges touristiques.
