Summary A survey was conducted among 179 general practitioners and 3497 of their patients on the role of alcohol with regard to general health. 11.2% of the patients were considered by their doctors to be in a ‘possible alcohol problems group’, and an even higher proportion of the patients themselves felt this to be the case.
