Summary A survey of 25 consecutive admissions to a psychiatric hospital of patients aged 35 and under reveals that cannabis use is reported by up to 48% of patients, but that it could be verified by urine tests in only 17.4%. The presence of cannabis in the urine appeared to play little part in the phenomenology of the illness in all except one patient. A case history of this one identified patient with cannabis psychosis is described and discussed.
