Summary A follow‐up study was conducted on 64 glue‐sniffing adolescents who had previously visited a child consultation center. Family backgrounds were deprived with much early separation. Many parents adopted a‘hands‐off policy in bringing up their children. School records were poor and many subjects showed signs of delinquent behavior. At follow‐up (mean 6.9 years) the recent adjustment of 42 cases (65.6 %) was examined in detail. Of these, 29 cases were evaluated as well adjusted, 2 cases as intermediate and 11 cases as poorly adjusted. Six cases had experienced glue‐sniffing and three had used amphetamine in the past year. Prognostic factors are difficult to identify.
