Summary Enumeration is made of the various pathological conditions accompanying chronic alcoholism in which thiamine deficiency has been aetiologically implicated. The efficacy of thiamine repletion in several of these conditions is illustrated. The role of routine thiamine administration to newly‐admitted chronic alcoholics is briefly discussed and the author concludes that thiamine supplementation in all chronic alcoholics should be a standard procedure.
