Summary Diphenoxylate Hydrochloride (Lomotil) was effective in alleviating the minor withdrawal symptoms that accompanies complete methadone detoxification. None of the subjects developed a tolerance to Lomotil nor did they experience withdrawal symptoms or craving when Lomotil was discontinued. This report indicates that the elimination of this minor withdrawal syndrome facilitates complete methadone detoxification.
