Summary During January, 1974 and February, 1974, the illegal use of drugs by Israeli youth was evaluated through interviews. Those interviewed included psychiatrists, chemists, government officials, police, drug users, prostitutes, and others directly involved. In addition, interviews were carried out with the goal of understanding the totality of the situation, and these discussions were with Israeli writers, philosophers, sociologists, and students familiar with the socio‐psychological picture of modem Israel. Conclusions indicate strong fears by government personnel that drugs may affect national security status, yet tend to support the view that Israel's drug problem is not intense.
