Urinalysis of 39,350 Samples for Drugs Subject to Abuse in a Methadone Maintenance Treatment Programme

Summary Urinalysis of 39,350 samples within a methadone treatment programme for drugs subject to abuse over a period of 16 months provided the following positive data: methadone, 95.74%; morphine, 1.20%; quinine, 2.24%; codeine, 0.15%; phenethylamines, 0.87%; barbiturates, 1.34%; and miscellaneous group of drugs, 1.01%. The total positive exclusive of methadone was 6.81%. The urinalysis data indicated a low level of illicit drug usage within the programme.
