Summary. The taxonomy, ecology and distribution of Senecio paludosus L. is discussed with particular reference to the English populations now recognised as belonging to subsp. angustifolius Holub. Extinct in England since the mid‐nineteenth century until it was rediscovered in 1972, the attempts at reintroduction are discussed and prospects for the future reviewed.
