Summary. The history and structure of the University Botanic Garden are described, from its foundation in 1762, and its move to the present site in 1846, to the most recent changes. The plantings and buildings in the garden are shown to reflect both the interests of successive directors and staff, and developments in the sciences of botany and genetics in Cambridge over the past 150 years.
