The prognostic significance of initial skin lesions was studied in thirty cases of epidermotropic cutaneous lymphoma. The numbers of patients with initial erythema, papules, or nodule or tumors were 22 (72%)‐Group I, 6 (20%)‐Group II, and 2 (7%)‐Group III, respectively. Nodules or tumors developed earlier in Group II patients than in Group I patients; the percentages of tumor death were 83% in the former and 25% in the latter. The Group I patients had a more favorable 2‐year survival rate (72%) than did the Group II patients (0%) (p<0.025). It is suggested that the macroscopic appearance of initial skin lesions, either erythema or papules, is a useful prognostic marker.
