The enzyme activity and mRNA level of M‐type lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were studied in dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP), a low grade sarcoma of the skin with a long clinical course and pronounced tendency toward progression and local recurrence. The isoenzyme pattern of LDH in DFSP was quite similar to that of other malignant skin tumors. The total LDH activity, ratio of M‐type activity, and mRNA level of M‐type LDH in DFSP were higher than those in control skin. It is suggested that this higher enzyme activity of M‐type LDH in DFSP was mainly due to the higher activity of mRNA coding for M‐type LDH.
