Lymphocyte transformation by varicella‐zoster virus antigen was investigated in 43 blood samples from herpes zoster patients without serious underlying diseases. Lymphocyte responses were low in the early days of the illness and increased in the convalescent stage with wide dispersion. Although the intensity of the skin test and complement fixing antibody became mostly positive on coincident convalescent days, no distinct correlation was observed in the values of these three immunological indexes.
