ABSTRACT Lymphocyte studies were performed on 19 untreated patients with active bullous pemphigoid and 35 controls. Peripheral blood T cells, Fc receptor‐bearing cells, B cells and phytohemag‐glutinin (PHA) stimulation were studied. Patients with bullous pemphigoid did not have statistically significant levels of circulating T cells, B cells, or Fc receptor‐bearing cells, compared to normals (P≥0.05). PHA stimulation was significantly lower in bullous pemphigoid patients, P values being 0.006, 0.007 and 0.008 at PHA concentration of 1/2,500, 1/1,000, and 1/100 respectively. This study demonstrates that one of the functions of T cells in the peripheral blood leukocytes from patients with bullous pemphigoid is decreased.
