ANTI‐DNA ANTIBODIES OF VARIOUS SKIN DISEASES, ESPECIALLY OF SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

Anti‐DNA antibodies of healthy controls and patients with various skin diseases, especially with SLE, were measured with a hemoagglutination test using erythrocytes labelled with DNA (DNA test manufactured by Fujizoki). The following conclusions were obtained. 1) Untreated SLE with acute symptoms presents a high anti‐DNA antibody titer in the DNA test. 2) The anti‐DNA antibody titer rises slightly later than do clinical symptoms. 3) If corticosteroids are given in sufficient doses at the beginning of SLE treatment, there is a possibility of the DNA test turning negative within two months. 4) The anti‐DNA antibody titer is kept at a dilution of 1:160 or less in well‐controlled SLE. 5) In addition to SLE, PSS also gives increased titers.
