The superficial venous flow of the limb can be thermographically visualized when the distal portion of the limb is heated in a water bath. A total of 23 healthy adults and 116 adult patients with active or inactive venous occlusions and related diseases of the lower limb was examined by the thermographic venography. Abnormal thermovenograms included those with completely absent or delayed visulization, cessation or partial interruption, tortuosity or increased collateral flow, depending on the location and nature of the pathology. Thermographic venography can be used as a new diagnostic technique for screening before the radiation venography.
