A new method to synthesize a hollow structure containing calcium and magnesium oxides is proposed. The method involves three processes: First, magnesium carbonate is formed around needlelike aragonite in an autoclave using urea. Second, the needlelike aragonite is removed with hydrochloric acid, and hollow magnesium carbonate is obtained. Third, the hollow magnesium carbonate is heated to form a product containing magnesium and calcium oxides without its shape being altered.
