Isothermally solidified microstructures of the alumina‐rich spinel solid solution—yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) composite was investigated. It was identified that the eutectic phase relation of the YAG—spinel system could be maintained with the formation of an alumina‐rich spinel solid solution, despite the significant change in eutectic compositions. In addition, divorced eutectic precipitates that have a spinel‐rich composition were observed surrounding the YAG dendrites.
