The importance of temperature in colloidal processing was examined by investigating its effect on the characteristics of a ceramic slurry and on the subsequent processing before firing. An aqueous alumina slurry was used as a model system in the present study. The viscosity of the slurry was found to vary significantly with temperature, and the structure of the resultant green bodies made by centrifugation varied correspondingly. The importance of temperature in the production of ceramics is discussed in light of these results.
